Domaine de Montille ‘Le Clos du Château’ Bourgogne Blanc, Burgundy, France 2023
A historic Côte de Beaune estate whose roots in Volnay go back centuries. Hubert de Montille rebuilt the holdings from a few hectares after 1947, and his son Étienne has led the domaine since. Farming has been organic since 1995 and certified organic since 2012. The walled Clos in front of the Château de Puligny-Montrachet is one of the estate’s biodynamic trial plots.

- TERROIR: Bourgogne, at the foot of Puligny-Montrachet. Five-hectare walled vineyard in front of the Château, east-facing. Chalky limestone and clay soils.
- VINIFICATION: Indigenous yeast fermentation. Malolactic fermentation. Organically grown fruit.The wine is fermented and aged in a mix of 228L and 600L barrels, with a small percentage of new barrel.
- AGING: 11 months on the lees in large-format barrels (500–600L).
- TASTING NOTES: Pale and fresh, with white stone fruit, apple and plum. Floral and mineral on the nose, with a buttery texture and citrus on the finish. Light and zesty with a leesy texture. Exhibits delicate white floral notes and a lacy, well-balanced structure, making it a step up from typical Bourgogne Blanc.
