Bodkin ‘The Victor’s Spoils’ Sauvignon Blanc, North Coast, California 2023
Bodkin Wines has built a reputation for pushing California whites in a fresher, lower-alcohol direction, focusing on vibrancy, aromatics, and drinkability. “The Victor’s Spoils” Sauvignon Blanc pulls from cooler North Coast sites to deliver a bright, high-energy expression that leans crisp, lifted, and unapologetically refreshing.
- WINEMAKER: Chris Christensen
- FARMING: Sustainably farmed vineyards
- VARIETY: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
- TERROIR: A blend of fruit from HRSV Vineyard in Upper Lake Valley (Lake County) and Incognito Vineyards in McDowell Valley (Mendocino County). These inland yet elevated sites provide warm days for ripeness and cool nights to preserve acidity and aromatic intensity.
- VINIFICATION: Fermented entirely in stainless steel to highlight purity of fruit and preserve fresh, lifted aromatics.
- AGING: Aged in stainless steel to maintain crispness and linearity
- TASTING NOTES: Explosive aromatics of lemon, pear, guava, and jasmine jump from the glass, with subtle gooseberry and pine notes adding complexity. The palate is zippy and refreshing—think fresh lemonade—layered with apricot, green apple, and citrus oils. The finish is lime-driven, textured, and clean, with a lingering note of lemon curd.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Oysters, ceviche, goat cheese, salads with citrus vinaigrette, or simply on its own ice-cold.
