La Tour Chantecaille Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France 2021
Château La Tour Chantecaille occupies a privileged position in the northwest corner of Saint-Émilion, on the plateau bordering Pomerol. Located just 300 meters from the legendary Château Pétrus and situated between Château L'Évangile and Château Gazin, this family estate is managed by the Angle family from their 19th-century manor house. The nine-hectare property benefits from exceptional terroir conditions similar to those found in Pomerol's finest estates, producing elegant wines that express the character of this distinctive terroir.
- WINEMAKER: The estate's production is overseen by Jean-Baptiste Bourotte, owner of Clos du Clocher, Château Bonalgue, and Château du Courlat, with assistance from Michel Rolland's consulting team.
- FARMING: Sustainable
- VARIETY: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc.
- TERROIR: The estate is situated on Saint-Émilion's northwest plateau at the border with Pomerol. Vines are planted in a one-to-two meter thick layer of sand mixed with stones, over a subsoil rich in clay—ideal conditions that mirror those of Pomerol's top properties. The maritime climate features increasingly warm summers and mild winters.
- VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks.
- AGING: The wine matures for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, with one-third renewed annually by three different coopers. Each barrique is fined with one egg white.
- TASTING NOTES: This oak-aged Saint-Émilion offers seductive aromas of spices, red and dark fruit. The palate is full and round with supple tannins and a rich, harmonious finish.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Roasted quail, veal with mushroom sauce, pork tenderloin with garlic and herbs, game birds, aged cheeses.
