This wine, ‘Chemin des Moines de Vergy,’ isn’t labeled as “Burgundy/Bourgogne” because it doesn’t fall within Burgundy’s formal appellation boundaries. Specifically, this vineyard sits just outside the official limits of the Burgundy AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée). Instead, the vineyard is classified as IGP Coteaux de l’Auxois, a designation indicating it’s geographically and stylistically connected to Burgundy but not officially within the defined appellation zones. Hence, it can’t legally bear the “Bourgogne” name on the label.
