F.X. Pichler is a revered family-run estate in the Wachau Valley, Austria, celebrated for its meticulous white wines that reflect the region's unique terroir.
-
WINEMAKER: Lucas Pichler
-
FARMING: Practicing organic
-
VARIETY: 100% Riesling
-
TERROIR: Ried Kellerberg is a steep, south-facing vineyard above the Danube, composed of weathered gneiss and minimal topsoil. Its exposure, altitude, and excellent drainage create ideal conditions for producing structured, mineral-driven Riesling with intensity and finesse.
-
VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed after a short maceration; fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks.
-
AGING: Aged several months on fine lees in stainless steel to enhance complexity while maintaining purity.
-
TASTING NOTES: Bright and focused, showing aromas of lime leaf, white peach, green tea, and crushed stone. The palate is racy and mineral-laden, with taut acidity, layered citrus, and a long, precise finish.
-
FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with sashimi, Vietnamese lemongrass pork, Alsatian tartes flambées, or citrus-marinated shellfish.
