Domaine Stéphane Ogier 'Le Temps est Venu' Côtes du Rhône, Rhône Valley, France 2022
Based in Ampuis at the heart of Côte-Rôtie, Domaine Stéphane Ogier is one of the Northern Rhône's most celebrated estates. Stéphane took over from his father Michel in 1997 after studies in Burgundy and time in South Africa, and over the following two decades transformed the domaine into a benchmark producer with global recognition. His Burgundian formation is evident throughout: all parcels are vinified separately, and he applies a rigorous parcel-by-parcel approach across 17 hectares spanning Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and Seyssuel, as well as Southern Rhône sites on the Plan de Dieu and Visan. 'Le Temps est Venu' — introduced in 2010 — represents Ogier's sole foray into Grenache-based blending, the variety being prohibited in his Côte-Rôtie appellations.
- WINEMAKER: Stéphane Ogier
- FARMING: Minimum-intervention viticulture. Organic practices.
- VARIETY: 60% Grenache, 40% Syrah
- TERROIR: Sourced from two Côtes-du-Rhône Villages-level locales: Plan de Dieu (flat clay-limestone soils with quartz stones on the surface) and Visan (rolling hills of sandy clay-limestone). Vines average 30–50 years of age. The southern Rhône's Mediterranean climate, moderated by the Mistral, produces concentrated yet fresh-fruited wines.
- VINIFICATION: Hand harvested, with double sorting — in the field and at the winery. Whole-bunch fermentation in thermoregulated concrete vats using native yeasts.
- AGING: Aged approximately 6 months in concrete vats, preserving freshness and fruit integrity.
- TASTING NOTES: Up-front and loaded with charm, with black raspberry and redcurrant-like fruit alongside peppery garrigue and spice. Medium to full-bodied, round, layered, and beautifully balanced.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Roasted lamb, grilled beef, braised pork, duck, herb-crusted poultry, Provençal dishes.
- SCORES: 92 pts. Jeb Dunnuck (March 2024) 90 pts. Wine Advocate (May 2025)
