Vinos del Atlántico 'Patio Pounder' Branco, Vinho Verde, Portugal 2023 [1L]
Compañía de Vinos del Atlántico was founded in 2002 by Alberto Orte and the Matas family, drawing on a winemaking heritage dating back to the late 1800s. Based in Spain, the project extends to Portugal's Vinho Verde DOC with 'Patio Pounder' — a label conceived with characteristic irreverence by Orte as a playful tribute to the region's tradition of fresh, low-alcohol whites built for immediate enjoyment. Sourced from the Vinha Grande and Vinha da Vessada sites in Penafiel, it arrives in a 1-liter format expressly designed for sharing.
- WINEMAKER: Alberto Orte
- FARMING: Sustainably farmed. Certified Carbon Neutral.
- VARIETY: 50% Loureiro, 40% Fernão Pires, 10% Arinto
- TERROIR: Penafiel, Vinho Verde DOC. Sandy soils over granite at 100–500m elevation. Located near 41°N latitude on Portugal's far-north Atlantic coast, the region's cool, wet maritime climate and granitic bedrock yield wines of natural freshness, low alcohol, and mineral tension.
- VINIFICATION: Multiple-pass (tries) harvesting. Fermented in stainless steel.
- AGING: Three months on the lees before bottling.
- TASTING NOTES: Pale straw with a green hue. Aromas of lemon, lime, green apple, and jasmine with granite-tinged minerality. The palate delivers ripe peach and apricot, lively acidity, a saline quality, and a zesty finish. Light natural effervescence. 10% ABV.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Oysters, grilled shrimp, calamari, citrus-dressed salads, fresh cheeses (feta, chèvre), spiced Asian and Mexican dishes.
