Mario Fontana upholds his family's legacy, crafting Barolo in the traditional style—structured, expressive, and built to age. Sourced from three prime crus in Castiglione Falletto and La Morra, this Barolo reflects the depth, balance, and persistence of the region’s finest wines.
- WINEMAKER: Mario Fontana
- FARMING: Sustainable, traditional practices
- VARIETY: 100% Nebbiolo
- TERROIR: A blend of fruit from three distinct vineyards—Villero and Valletti (Mariondino) in Castiglione Falletto and Gallinotto (Giachini) in La Morra—each contributing structure, elegance, minerality, and complexity. The soils are a mix of marl, clay, and limestone, offering both power and finesse.
- VINIFICATION: Grapes from each site are fermented separately, with spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel. Extended maceration (up to 40 days) allows for deep extraction. The wines are blended post-fermentation.
- AGING: Aged for two years in 25-27hl Slavonian oak botti, followed by an additional year in cement vats. The wine is then bottled and rests for another year before release.
- TASTING NOTES: A deeply complex Barolo with classic aromas of roses, red berries, orange peel, and tar. Layers of liquorice, menthol, and spice unfold on the palate, supported by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and structured, promising excellent aging potential.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Pairs beautifully with braised meats, wild boar, aged cheeses, and rich, slow-cooked dishes of Piemonte. Also enjoyable on its own with dark chocolate or Parmigiano Reggiano.
