Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has rapidly ascended to become one of Burgundy's most celebrated and sought-after producers. The eldest son of renowned winemaker Marc Colin, Pierre-Yves established his own domaine in 2005 alongside his wife Caroline Morey, daughter of Jean-Marc Morey—two historic Burgundian winemaking families united. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, Pierre-Yves has earned international acclaim primarily for his mineral-driven Chardonnays, though he also produces refined Pinot Noirs that showcase his signature elegance and precision. His fastidious farming, incredible attention to detail, and minimal-intervention approach allow each wine to express a clear sense of terroir with remarkable purity.
- WINEMAKER: Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey
- FARMING: Sustainable viticulture with meticulous attention to soil health and vine balance. Organic farming practices.
- VARIETY: 100% Pinot Noir
- TERROIR: La Comme is a prestigious 21.6-hectare Premier Cru vineyard located at the northern end of Santenay, directly bordering Chassagne-Montrachet—widely regarded as the finest section of the commune. While Pinot Noir covers the majority of this site, the proximity to Chassagne and the quality of the limestone-rich soils elevate La Comme above typical Santenay rusticity. The vineyard's gentle southeast-facing slope provides ideal sun exposure throughout the day. The upper section features gray limestone with significant gravel and marl content, while the lower portions contain clay-limestone soils with reddish clay deposits. These soils provide both structure and elegance. The site benefits from good ventilation and well-drained soils, essential for producing refined Pinot Noir. This is "Santenay on the Chassagne side," expressing greater finesse than the more rustic southern sectors.
- VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted. Partial whole-cluster fermentation (approximately 30%) provides aromatic lift and structural complexity. Gentle vinification with careful punching down and minimal pumping over to preserve freshness and finesse. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts. The winemaking is designed to maximize elegance rather than extraction.
- AGING: Aged in 350-liter demi-muid barrels, with the larger format limiting oak influence and preserving the wine's natural energy and fruit expression. Extended élevage on fine lees. Bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve character and terroir expression.
- TASTING NOTES: This Premier Cru reveals Pierre-Yves's gift for crafting elegant, refined Pinot Noir. The wine displays a medium ruby color with remarkable clarity. The nose is expressive and perfumed with red cherry, wild strawberry, and violet, complemented by subtle notes of rose petal, licorice, and earthy undergrowth. The partial whole-bunch fermentation provides additional aromatic complexity and a sense of lift. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity provides structure and freshness, while the fruit remains pure and precise. Flavors of red berries, cherry, and subtle spice unfold with remarkable elegance. The limestone minerality adds depth and complexity. Despite Santenay's reputation for more robust wines, this La Comme exhibits the refinement and finesse of its proximity to Chassagne-Montrachet. Long, graceful finish. Around 12.5-13% alcohol. Drink from 2027-2033.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: The wine's elegance and fine tannins pair beautifully with roasted duck breast, grilled lamb, coq au vin, beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto, and soft-washed rind cheeses such as Époisses or Langres. Also excellent with roasted game birds or charcuterie. Serve at 15-16°C.
