Chalmers, a pioneering family in introducing Italian grape varieties to Australia, has crafted a bright and fresh Vermentino designed for youthful enjoyment. This wine showcases the varietal's adaptability to warm climates, reflecting the unique terroir of their Heathcote vineyard.
- WINEMAKER: Bart van Olphen
- FARMING: Sustainable practices focused on soil health and balanced vines
- VARIETY: 100% Vermentino
- TERROIR: East-facing slopes at 150-170 meters elevation in northern Heathcote, featuring red Cambrian soils. The Vermentino clone was imported by Chalmers in 2002 and planted in 2009.
- VINIFICATION: Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, utilizing only free-run juice. Underwent a long, slow, and cool wild fermentation, followed by 5 months on lees in stainless steel vats to maintain freshness. Unfined and vegan-friendly.
- AGING: 5 months on fine lees in stainless steel vats
- TASTING NOTES: Crisp and lean, yet expressive and complex. Aromas of white peach, finger lime, blanched almonds, sea spray, and chalk. The palate is long and refreshing, with a fleshy mid-palate and bright acidity.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with fish and chips, lemon and garden pea risotto, oysters, or prawn and pork dumplings.
