Brockmeyer Family Wines 'Flamant' Rosé, Yakima Valley, Washington 2025
Founded in 2018 by Richard "Brock" Brockmeyer and his son Brett, Brockmeyer Family Wines is a boutique, family-driven project rooted in a deep generational connection to viticulture. The winery takes its name — and its ethos — from the Cederquist family farm south of Fresno, where Brock's grandfather Ernest planted Grenache in the 1890s. That heritage block remains central to the label's identity, with a Rosé of Grenache as its flagship. The 2025 'Flamant' extends that tradition to Washington State, drawing from one of the Yakima Valley's most storied sites.
- Winemaker: Brett Brockmeyer. A UC Davis-trained winemaker, Brett spent 13 vintages with the PlumpJack family of wineries in Napa, advancing to Associate Winemaker and overseeing production across multiple estate brands. He relocated to Walla Walla with the 2022 vintage and currently serves as Production Winemaker for Dossier Wine Collective.
- Farming: Conventionally farmed by vineyard owner Sean Tudor, who has managed Otis Vineyard since 2013.
- Variety: 77% Grenache, 23% Mourvèdre.
- Terroir: Otis Vineyard sits in the Yakima Valley AVA, Washington's first federally recognized wine-growing region, established in 1983. One of the most historically significant sites in the state, Otis was originally planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1956 by Otis Harlan — among the oldest commercial wine grape plantings in Washington. The Grenache and Mourvèdre blocks occupy a slightly cooler section of the vineyard, preserving natural acidity. Soils are classified as Warden Very Fine Sandy Loam, a well-drained, low-organic-matter profile derived from Missoula Flood deposits over basalt bedrock. The valley's arid, high-desert climate — averaging just 8 inches of annual rainfall — and pronounced diurnal temperature variation support concentrated fruit development and freshness in equal measure.
- Vinification: Grenache and Mourvèdre were hand-harvested in the early morning hours of October 10, 2025, and rushed to the winery for immediate whole-cluster pressing. Juice was transferred to stainless steel for primary fermentation. SO₂ was added post-fermentation to block malolactic conversion and preserve aromatic integrity. The wine was then racked off the lees into a plastic egg tank. Sterile filtered and bottled January 30, 2026. 100 cases produced.
- Aging: Three months in a plastic egg tank prior to bottling. No oak contact.
- Tasting Notes: A Southern Rhône-inspired rosé with a pale salmon hue. Aromas of fresh strawberry, white peach, and dried rose petal with a subtle mineral lift. The palate is dry and lively, with crisp red fruit, citrus zest, and clean acidity. Light-bodied with a refreshing, clean finish. Residual sugar: 1.5 g/L. Alcohol: 14.2%.
- Food Pairings: Provençal-style salads, grilled branzino, charcuterie, fresh chèvre, and light pasta dishes with summer vegetables.
