Founded in 1838 in Aÿ, Champagne Deutz is known for a refined, understated house style rooted in balance and precision. Drawing from both estate vineyards and long-standing grower relationships, the house works predominantly with Premier and Grand Cru fruit across Champagne’s key regions. Under longtime Cellar Master Michel Davesne, Deutz continues to emphasize elegance, consistency, and Pinot Noir-driven structure in its wines.
- WINEMAKER: Michel Davesne, with deputy Olivier Bernard
- FARMING: HVE3 with organic transition
- VARIETY: 38% Pinot Noir, 32% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay
- TERROIR: Fruit sourced from Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs, with over 80% from Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. The house farms 42 hectares directly, supplemented by long-standing grower partnerships. Chalk-rich soils contribute to the wine’s structure and freshness.
- VINIFICATION: Hand-harvested and pressed using Coquard presses, with only the free-run juice and first pressing retained. Each parcel is vinified separately in stainless steel. Alcoholic and full malolactic fermentation occur in tank. The base wines are blended in spring, incorporating 25–40% reserve wines to maintain consistency and house style.
- AGING: Aged a minimum of 3 years on the lees, followed by an additional 6 months post-disgorgement before release. Dosage: 9 g/L.
- TASTING NOTES: Fine, persistent mousse with a bright golden hue. Aromas of white flowers, hawthorn, ripe pear, and citrus lead into notes of toast, marzipan, and light brioche. The palate is balanced and layered, combining freshness with subtle richness, finishing clean and rounded with a gentle fruit-driven lift.
