Chauveau 'Les Collines de Lise Premiers Pas' Pouilly-Fumé, Loire, France 2023
Domaine Chauveau has farmed in Saint-Andelain, at the heart of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, since the 19th century. Benoît Chauveau took over the vines in the mid-1990s, with his wife Emmanuelle later joining to run the estate's commercial and administrative side. Their daughter Lise has since joined the family team as an agricultural engineer and oenologist, and this cuvée is named in tribute to her first steps in the family trade (her Premiers Pas!)
- WINEMAKER: Benoît Chauveau, with Emmanuelle Chauveau (commercial/administrative) and Lise Chauveau (agricultural engineer/oenologist)
- FARMING: HVE Level 3 certified (Haute Valeur Environnementale, France's High Environmental Value certification) since 2020, reflecting sustainable practices around biodiversity preservation, minimal phytosanitary intervention, and careful water and fertilization management
- VARIETY: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
- TERROIR: Pouilly-Fumé AOC, Centre-Loire, France, centered on the commune of Saint-Andelain. Fruit is sourced across the appellation's classic soil types — Kimmeridgian marl, siliceous clay with flint, and limestone — contributing the signature gunflint minerality the appellation is known for.
- VINIFICATION: Cool, extended fermentation of roughly 10 days at low temperature to preserve the wine's aromatic intensity.
- AGING: 6 months in stainless steel tank.
- TASTING NOTES: Zesty citrus and grapefruit lead the nose, with green apple, white peach, and a distinct flinty minerality. Crisp and focused on the palate, showing lime zest, fresh herbs, and a whisper of smoke, finishing dry and vibrant with clean precision.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Fresh oysters with lemon, goat cheese and herb salad, grilled white fish with citrus.
