Giuseppe & Luigi Prosecco, Friuli, Italy NV
Giuseppe & Luigi is a negociant label owned by Giuliana Imports and produced by the Anselmi family of Friuli Venezia Giulia — the same family behind the La Giana brand. The estate was founded when Ettore Anselmi planted the family farm to vines in 1937, and is today led by his grandsons Giuseppe and Luigi, the latter a graduate of the enology school of San Michele all'Adige in Trentino. The family's 400-hectare property, of which 90 are planted to vine, spans the Latisana sub-zone of the Friuli DOC and a smaller parcel in the Collio DOC. The Prosecco fruit comes from a distinct 8-hectare holding of Glera vines around the village of Pocenia, just south of Udine, vinified and bottled on-site using the family's own sparkling wine bottling line.
- WINEMAKER: Luigi Anselmi
- FARMING: Sustainable. No pesticides or fungicides. Cover crops and mowing for vineyard health. Dry farmed. Soils are calcareous clay marl. Glera vines approximately 20 years old, planted at high density to reduce yields naturally.
- VARIETY: 100% Glera
- TERROIR: Pocenia, Latisana sub-zone, Friuli Venezia Giulia, within the Prosecco DOC. The Friulian plain is defined by alluvial and marl-based soils and subject to the Bora — a strong, dry northeast wind descending from the Karst plateau — which plays a central role in maintaining vine health, preserving aromatic intensity, and reinforcing freshness and minerality in the finished wine. High-density planting limits crop load per vine, concentrating flavors. The Adriatic to the south moderates temperatures and extends the aromatic development of Glera through the growing season.
- VINIFICATION: Charmat method (Martinotti); secondary fermentation in pressurized autoclave tanks to preserve the fresh, primary fruit character and fine perlage characteristic of the style. Bottled on-site using the estate's own sparkling wine line.
- AGING: Early release following secondary fermentation; not intended for cellaring.
- TASTING NOTES: Pale straw with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is fresh and aromatic with white peach, pear, apple blossom, and a light mineral note from the Bora-influenced terroir. The palate is clean and lively, with soft mousse, gentle acidity, and a crisp, refreshing finish.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Aperitif, fresh seafood, light pasta, bruschetta, soft cheeses, prosciutto.
