Rodolphe Demougeot Chardonnay, Bourgogne Côte d'Or, Burgundy, France 2022
Rodolphe Demougeot took over his family's vines in Meursault in 1992 and has spent the decades since building a quietly serious eight-hectare estate across the Côte de Beaune. He farms organically and times cellar work to the lunar calendar, but the philosophy shows up most in what he doesn't do: minimal handling, minimal new oak, minimal intervention, letting each parcel — from village Meursault and Pommard down to this regional bottling — speak in its own voice rather than the winemaker's.
- Winemaker: Rodolphe Demougeot
- Farming: Organic practices, guided by the lunar cycle and biodynamic practices
- Variety: 100% Chardonnay
- Terroir: Bourgogne Côte d'Or, Burgundy, France. 0.61 hectares directly below the Meursault lieu-dit "Le Limozin," planted 1967–2003 on a gentle southeast-facing slope at 250m; limestone bedrock under deep beige clay and rocky topsoil., vines planted in 1967, 1986, and 2003 on deep clay-limestone soil.
- Vinification: Hand-harvested into small crates, sorted in the vineyard, and whole-cluster pressed.
- Aging: 90% old 228L and 350L oak barrels for one year, then racked to stainless steel for 5–6 months before spring bottling; unfined, lightly filtered; first sulfur addition just before bottling.
- Tasting Notes: Floral lift on the nose; a palate balancing richness and freshness with good underlying acidity.
- Food Pairings: Roast chicken, soft-ripened cheeses, or grilled white fish.
