Ryme Cellars 'Hers' Vermentino, Carneros, California 2025
Ryan and Megan Glaab met as seasonal cellar hands at Torbreck Winery in Australia and married soon after, going on to work at Pax Wine Cellars, Peay Vineyards, Sine Qua Non, and Marcassin before founding Ryme Cellars in 2007 with a single ton of Aglianico. The label has since built its identity around Mediterranean varieties that the couple believes express California terroir in ways the noble grapes can't — Vermentino chief among them. The His and Hers Vermentino project began as the two disagreed on how the grape should be made: Ryan's His sees skin contact and extended aging, while Megan's Hers goes straight to press for a brighter, more immediate style. It's reportedly the only wine on which the couple has ever disagreed.
WINEMAKER: Megan Glaab, with Ryan Glaab
FARMING: Organic, sustainable farming practices
VARIETY: 100% Vermentino
TERROIR: Los Carneros AVA, on the far western Sonoma County side of Carneros, where the Petaluma Wind Gap meets San Pablo Bay. Las Brisas Vineyard sits on a mix of clay and loam soils, with the cool climate and persistent morning fog shaping the grape's bright acidity.
VINIFICATION: Hand-harvested and gently pressed directly to tank, fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity — no cultured yeast, no temperature control, and no enzymes or other additions.
AGING: In stainless steel and neutral oak; unfined and unfiltered.
TASTING NOTES: Lithe and refreshing, with lemon rind, white florals, and salty sea spray on the nose. The palate is zippy and crunchy but rounds out with real texture and depth, carrying a mineral, saline backbone throughout.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Fresh seafood, crunchy green vegetables, or as a standalone aperitif.
