Usually ready in 1 hour
From the volcanic hillsides of Tokaj’s premier Barakonyi vineyard, this dry Furmint speaks of austere elegance and lively minerality. Crafted by Sarolta Bárdos and team at Tokaj Nobilis—an estate founded on minimal intervention, organic farming, and soil-driven expression—this cuvée channels clarity, freshness, and age-worthy tension.
- WINEMAKER: Sarolta Bárdos (Tokaj Nobilis)
- FARMING: Organic (certified); hand-harvested from a single premier vineyard
- VARIETY: 100% Furmint
- TERROIR: Barakonyi lies north of Bodrogkisfalud, atop volcanic rhyolite “powder” soils with scant topsoil and significant wind exposure that naturally inhibits botrytis and ensures clean, mineral-driven fruit
- VINIFICATION: Fruit is hand-picked, gently pressed, and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in 220 L Zemplén oak barrels—typically half new, half 2–3 years old. Minimal intervention guides the fermentation, preserving the integrity of site and vintage
- AGING: Aged on fine lees in the same barrels for approximately 6 months before bottling, enhancing texture without obscuring freshness
- STYLE: Bone-dry, vibrant, and saline. Displays crystalline acidity, angular structure, and volcanic lift—highlighting Furmint’s bracing precision rather than botrytis sweetness. The 2022 vintage is especially lean and taut, with lower residual sugar (~7 g/L), intense acidity (7 g/L), and elevated alcohol (15%) for striking tension and complexity
- TASTING NOTES: Layered aromas of pear, yellow plum, green apple zest, and tropical fruit; underscored by floral honey, citrus pith, and a luminous mineral core. The palate is crisp and saline, with lingering spiced lemon and stony persistence
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Exceptional with pork, roasted root vegetables, sea bass, or richer poultry and fish dishes that echo its saline and citrus-driven profile
- AGEABILITY: Ready to enjoy now but built for cellar evolution over the next 5–6 years, gaining nuance without losing its vibrant backbone
