Las Jaras is the playful, low-intervention label co-founded by winemaker Joel Burt and comedian Eric Wareheim, focused on crafting wines that are vibrant, expressive, and rooted in community. The 'Big Beautiful Buff' Albariño reflects their commitment to freshness and drinkability—showcasing a California-grown take on this Atlantic varietal with plenty of verve and texture.
-
WINEMAKER: Joel Burt
-
FARMING: Organic (uncertified)
-
VARIETY: 100% Albariño
-
TERROIR: Sourced from two vineyards in Contra Costa County and Clarksburg. These sites sit on ancient alluvial soils and benefit from cooling breezes off the Sacramento River Delta, allowing Albariño to maintain acidity while achieving ripeness.
-
VINIFICATION: Grapes were whole cluster pressed, then fermented with native yeasts. Fermentation took place in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak barrels.
-
AGING: Aged for 5 months on lees in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak to build mid-palate texture.
-
TASTING NOTES: Crisp and zesty with lemon peel, green melon, and white peach. A chalky mineral edge and subtle salinity bring energy and lift, finishing with a touch of grip.
-
FOOD PAIRINGS: Grilled shrimp tacos, fish crudo, or Manchego with Marcona almonds.
