Annia is Massican’s flagship “Cal-Ital” white blend, inspired by the whites of Friuli and crafted by Dan Petroski (now under Gallo ownership). It sources from small vineyards around Napa and Sonoma, aiming to marry California clarity with Mediterranean brightness.
- WINEMAKER: Dan Petroski
- FARMING: Sustainable with Approximately half of the vineyards organically farmed; no glyphosate is used in weed control.
- VARIETY: 42 % Ribolla Gialla, 35 % Tocai Friulano, 17 % Chardonnay, 6 % Pinot Bianco
- TERROIR: The grapes come from a mix of small, cool-site vineyards across Napa and Sonoma, chosen for their ability to retain freshness and minerality under California conditions.
- VINIFICATION: Each grape variety is harvested separately and fermented independently. Around 62 % of the wine is fermented in neutral French oak, while the balance is handled in stainless steel barrels and tanks.
- AGING: After fermentation, the components are blended roughly six weeks before bottling. The wine is not aged in new oak; it is bottled with minimal intervention to preserve vibrancy and aromatic definition.
- TASTING NOTES: The 2024 Annia shows delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, pear, and stony minerality. On the palate, it is subtle and linear, delivering focused lemon, orchard fruit, and saline lift, with a transparent texture and clean finish.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Best with shellfish, grilled scallops, light seafood pastas, fresh goat cheese, or Asian cuisine with citrus and herbs.
- SCORES: Decanter – 93, James Suckling – 93, Wine Spectator – 92
