Brothers Steffen and Andreas Rings have transformed their family’s former fruit farm in Freinsheim into one of the most dynamic estates in the Pfalz. Since founding the winery in 2001, they’ve pursued an organic, low-intervention philosophy grounded in respect for the region’s varied soils—from limestone and terra rossa to sandy alluvial deposits. As full VDP members since 2015, their wines are benchmarks for precision, energy, and terroir expression in northern Mittelhaardt.
- WINEMAKERS: Steffen & Andreas Rings
- FARMING: Certified EU Organic. The vineyards are managed with natural cover crops of buckwheat, radish, and clover to aerate the soil and support beneficial insects. Horse manure provides organic fertilization, and yields are kept intentionally low through handwork and selective leaf removal.
- VARIETY: 100% Riesling
- TERROIR: Estate-grown fruit sourced from vineyards in Kallstadt, Ungstein, and Freinsheim—each contributing a distinct texture and mineral tone. Kallstadt’s limestone soils lend salinity and structure, Ungstein’s terra rossa sandstone provides spice and warmth, and Freinsheim’s alluvial sand and gravel add freshness and aromatic lift.
- VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed before fermenting spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine is aged on its fine lees in stainless steel to preserve purity and enhance texture, with no fining or heavy manipulation.
- AGING: Short maturation on lees in stainless steel prior to early bottling, designed to capture vibrancy and immediacy.
- TASTING NOTES: Fresh and fruity in the classic Pfalz style, the 2024 ‘Petit’ Riesling brims with aromas of green apple, peach, and lime zest. The palate is crisp and dry, balanced by lively acidity and a subtle mineral undercurrent that gives precision and lift. A light-bodied, energetic Riesling meant for pure refreshment.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with seafood, sushi, fresh salads, or soft goat cheese. Equally delicious as an aperitif or alongside spicy Asian dishes.

Rings Petit Riesling, Pfalz, Germany 2024
I know I don’t have to say this because you’re a CULT member and we’ve been drinking great wines together for a long time, but, just in case we haven’t gotten through to you yet, Riesling is amazing and most of it is DRY DRY DRY. If you still think all German Riesling is sweet, this bottle will set you straight!
Brothers Steffen and Andreas Rings turned their family’s mixed farm into one of the most exciting estates in the Pfalz. The Pfalz sits along the Haardt Hills in southwest Germany, directly north of Alsace, France—the two regions are separated only by the Rhine River. They share similar limestone-rich soils and sunny slopes tucked against the Palatinate Forest, which shields the vineyards from cold winds and gives a slightly warmer, drier climate. That means riper fruit and rounder texture than the renowned Mosel, while still keeping that unmistakable Riesling snap. Since 2001, they’ve farmed organically, worked entirely by hand, and focused on dry wines that express their diverse soils of limestone, sandstone, and terra rossa. Their modern winery, built into a hillside for natural cooling, keeps energy use low and winemaking gentle. They believe in the evolution of natural winemaking, and look to making modern wines from historic vineyards.
Petit Riesling is their most approachable bottling. It’s a lively, easy-drinking introduction to their house style, from a blend of younger vines from their most incredible vineyards. The grapes ferment spontaneously in stainless steel and rest on lees for texture before bottling. The result is crisp and bone-dry, with notes of green apple, lime zest, and white peach over a salty, chalky finish.
This is Riesling for every occasion: fresh cut green apples, zippy lime zest, and the minerality of wet river rocks. Chill it down and pair it with oysters, sushi, ceviche, or tinned mussels and potato chips. It’s as crisp as the autumn leaves, and pure Pfalz energy in a glass. We’re excited to pour this baby for you at our Napa shop’s upcoming 1-Year Anniversary party. See you there! PROST!
