La Fleur Garderose is a blend created by the Pueyo family from vineyards just outside Saint-Émilion in Julliac, intended as an accessible yet serious expression of Right Bank Bordeaux. It bridges vitality and structure while showcasing the family’s commitment to purity and minimal intervention.
-
WINEMAKER: Christophe Pueyo
-
FARMING: Organic practices (as with other Pueyo holdings) with low-intervention intent and vineyard care aimed at expressing site and fruit transparency.
-
VARIETY: 60 % Merlot, 40 % Cabernet Franc according to importer and grower sources.
TERROIR: The vines are planted in clay-limestone soils around Julliac, in the Saint-Émilion satellite zone. This terroir favors Merlot for its richness, while the Cabernet Franc lends structure and lift. - VINIFICATION: Grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed, and fermented with native yeasts. The fermentation occurs in cement tanks, with moderate extraction optimized for balance rather than power. After alcoholic fermentation the wine remains in those same tanks and undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
- AGING: The wine is aged exclusively in cement tanks for about one year before bottling, with no new oak used, so as to preserve fruit expression and clarity.
- TASTING NOTES: This Bordeaux Rouge opens with aromas of black cherry, plum, and dark berry fruit, accented by subtle earth, loam, and tobacco leaf. On the palate, it shows medium to full body, fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a firm mineral spine. The finish is persistent with echoes of red fruit and graphite.
- FOOD PAIRINGS: Pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled flank steak, mushroom-based dishes, cassoulet, or aged hard cheeses.
